I'm hooked on competitive fencing, but I'm not a fencer. I started out as a fencing mom, and got into bout committee work when my older daughter and I discovered neither of us could tolerate me watching her fence. But I went gungho into working bout committee and learned about the sport from the inside out. I hardly ever care who wins tournaments, but I love being around tournaments—working with fencers, referees, armorers, trainers, coaches, and watching the sport.
